Super Bowl XLV

I'm happy the Packers won...but I can be a bit of a downer when it comes to the Super Bowl. Excess is everywhere. The whole Super Bowl is about spending and amassing money. Every time we saw sickening excess, I couldn't help but bring up to my hubby how many people are suffering in the world and could truly benefit by all the money wasted at the Super Bowl. Add to that all the underage sex trafficking going on, and I admit, I was close to tears and pretty angry during a lot of the game. Yeah, you really don't want me at your Super Bowl party!

On a lighter note, while we had to keep our kids out of the room for much of the game due to really inappropriate commercials, we did see a commercial that made me laugh until I cried:

I totally feel you on being affected by being surrounded by excess when so many people around the world have so little. I used to feel this way ALL THE TIME and it would cause me to feel depressed and act less than kind to people. I finally had to suppress it in order to be more "normal" and happier. I still definitely feel that way but I had to realize that in the end my feelings didn't matter and me causing myself to be depressed didn't help anyone.

All that to say that you are definitely not alone in feeling this way. I often wonder how people aren't bothered on a daily basis by how unjust, unfair and generally f*cked up the world we live in is even if they feel that it is not so bad for them.

One of my biggest reasons for questioning whether or not to have biological children is that it's really hard for me to justify bringing them into a world that I see as objectively horrible.
